As I wandered around the fort, I was struck by the dichotomies of it’s existence. This is a 150+ year old fort that had a satellite dish on it. It was a paradise that no one wanted to be in. It was a Union outpost, south of the South. And then one that only made sense in my mind. It was a fort which suggested strict discipline, and it contained palm trees which I always associated with a sense of care-free sloth.
