There is a symbol of the season that is embedded in the American psyche. More than the hat or the red suit is the belly, I think. Some see it as the sign of a jovial, kindly old man. Others as the gluttony of a society grown greedy. I prefer the former rather than the later. As this is a season when, whether they like it or not, many people will remember that there are others beyond their circle. And work to do well by them. It really is a great thing to see.
